Shoal Creek Running Club

What is Running Club?
Running Club is a fun activity for students to voluntarily run before school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Running Club is brought to you through the generosity of the Shoal Creek PTA and the Los Rancheros Kiwanis Club through the Palomar Health’s Community Action Council.

How does it work?
As soon as the gates open at 7:25 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, every student from Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade is welcome to head over to Fairness Field for the Running Club. Students will receive lap cards from volunteers stationed at the tables. The cards are pre-printed with the student’s information and are sorted by their teacher’s name. The students run a 1/4 mile loop around Fairness Field and will have their cards scanned at the end of each loop completed. Running totals (amount of laps completed and total mileage) are tracked throughout the year for every participant. While participating in the Running Club, it is not mandatory to run. Students are invited to run or walk, but must keep moving.

Incentives
The goal for the Shoal Creek Running Club is to instill the importance of a healthy lifestyle and to motivate kids to have fun while they exercise. Students will be recognized for individual achievements.

Toe Tokens
A toe token is a little plastic foot that is awarded for every 5 miles (20 laps) that a student runs. New students will receive Running Club shoelaces to keep their toe tokens on. Lost shoelaces can be replaced for $1 but toe tokens cannot be replaced.

Big Feet Awards
An assortment of awards will be handed out.
