CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Volunteers are the greatest! We absolutely could not get along without all the wonderful things you do. Thank you for sharing your time, your expertise, your enthusiasm and your energy.
Our school is a better place for our children because of you!

Very Important Information: Megan's Law and TB Testing

Volunteers must fill out a Megan's Law Form prior to volunteering. The forms are processed through the district office and parents will be notified when may begin volunteering in a classroom.

All volunteers must have a recent (4 years or less) TB skin test. Due to new regulations from both the state and county, PUSD nurses will no longer be providing TB clearance. Please obtain a TB test from a licensed health care provider.

In case you don't know just how many wonderful volunteer opportunities there are at Shoal Creek School, here's a list:
  • The reading specialist needs lots of people to help kids READ!
  • Teachers in the lower grades especially need lots of classroom help.
  • The library always needs helpers to check books in and out, to shelve, to decorate, etc.
  • Field trip help is always welcome - join a class and have a blast!
  • If you can't help out at the school itself, we'd love to send home "backpack mail" with your child. You can do small projects from home and then send them back into school.
  • PTA...the BEST in THE STATE, and one of the friendliest...needs an army of volunteers for all of its activities which enrich our school!
Excited? Ready to jump right in and share your talents? But, don't know what to do or were to sign up? Please contact the PTA Volunteer Coordinator at [email protected] who would be happy to contact you at your convenience.

So, join one of the best teams in the world - Shoal Creek Parent Volunteers!
Interruptions are the natural enemy of education. If you are helping in the classroom, please keep a quiet tone, try not to "drop in" at unexpected times. Kids can have a tough enough time staying focused without interruptions.

DON'T FORGET TO SIGN IN!
Parents need to sign in at the office WHENEVER they are on campus, for
two reasons:
  1. Safety - we need to know where you are in case there is an emergency.
  2. We track our volunteer hours.
When you are on campus, please make yourself comfortable.
  • Do use the adult bathrooms in the office.
  • Store a snack in the refrigerator in the staff lounge.
  • Introduce yourself to staff and to other parents, so we can all get to know each other!

Don't forget to ASK QUESTIONS! That's the only way to really learn your way around.
Be sure to get help from a staff member before using computers, the die cut, the copier, or the risograph. They are tricky (not to mention expensive). We'd love to teach you the proper way to use them...then you can help someone else. Machines are located in several spots around the school, so let us show you where they are!

We really need you and miss you when you are not here. If you volunteer on a regular basis in the library, a classroom or special tutoring, PLEASE try to stick to the schedule you set up with the teacher. Teachers begin to count on you and even plan their day around you, so it can throw them off when you can't make it. Please let your child's teacher know if you are occasionally unavailable.

A WORD ABOUT PRIVACY....
As a volunteer you may see or hear confidential information about a student. Please keep it confidential. If other parents approach you about their child's progress or behavior at school, it is best to tell them to talk to the teacher.  For more information, please review our Volunteer Guidelines and the District's Volunteer Code of Conduct.

Flyers - All flyers must be approved by the office, and translated into Spanish, before given out to students. If you need one typed for any reason, just ask the volunteer coordinator. This really saves on phone calls if you're trying to reach a whole class with a notice or request for donations for a party, etc.
